Information system KARAT
KARAT IS is a complex enterprise information system designed for mid- and large-scale business and manufacturing organizations and service rendering companies. Developed in Windows graphical environment after more than 10 years of information system development and implementation experience, KARAT was analyzed and designed in integrated CASE tools package Sybase, now replaced with custom KARAT Modeler CASE tool. Client side of the application has been developed using modern programming tools - object-oriented environment designed for complex, hi-performance applications based on client/server database environments with transaction processing capabilities and graphical internet applications. Used technologies make it possible to ensure attributes like scalability and security, making KARAT's deployment optimal and effective.
Data security
For any information system, data security is of topmost importance. One of the key advantages of the client/server architecture is the separation of data processing and presentation - the server looks up the data and processes it, while the client - a personal computer - presents the data to the user in a nice graphical environment. Transaction processing is able to ensure data consistency even when the operation is interrupted by an unexpected failure. Combined with DB's access control system, KARAT's access control system (user access rights, modules, actions, tables, and table rows) ensures the highest level of security.
Scalability
As KARAT provides support for various database servers such as Sybase Adaptive Server Anywhere, Sybase Adaptive Server Enterprise or Microsoft SQL Server 2000, its applications are suitable for companies of varying scope, ranging from local station installations to network installations in UNIX environments comprising of hundreds of users. Database servers are capable to process relatively small amounts of data, as well as databases of tens to hundreds of GBs in size, so to keep with company growth, only the database engine may have to be switched, not the whole application. This flexibility is further boosted by the ability to choose the underlying platform (Intel, RISC) and operating system (Microsoft products and Unix systems SUN Solaris, IBM AIX, and Linux are supported) KARAT will be run at.
