…that is what most 4th KARATOpen 2002 expert meeting attendants base their decision-making upon. According to their expectations, a complex information system should enable access to new information sources useful in the decision-making process, make the company cash-flow more transparent and effective, reduce the stocks and shorten delivery times, and provide other, extended system functionality – CRM, information system for managers, etc.
Therefore, KARATOpen meeting focused mainly on news and recent trends and technologies this year. KARATOpen 2002 introduced some brand-new modules, like the Insurance broker module, which covers all responsibilities and activities of an insurance broker. Organisations conveying their own receivables (like factoring companies) or focused on receivables buy-out and sale can make use of Receivables sale module. The Manager module was created mainly with top-managers in mind and is capable of unified and centralised information access and graphical data analysis. With the CMR module, customer relation management is possible. The CRM module takes care of customer contact bookkeeping and management, and marketing activity bookkeeping and support. Manufacturing companies were presented a to-be-released manufacturing module. The module will cover all essential fields –production establishment, planning, and management.
New features of KARAT information system include KARAT Modeler, Attachments and document digitalisation or Workflow support. KARAT Modeler is a simple CASE tool integrated into KARAT IS, used to specify database structure – i.e. table, column, index and relation structure, and other properties specific to KARAT environment vital for general functionality of the application. KARAT Modeler is a visual tool useable even by non-professionals to an extent. KARAT Modeler is designed to reflect the procedures used in KARAT IS development and implementation.
KARAT also enables the user to attach almost arbitrary data to each table record. The nature of attached data can vary and includes scanned documents and template attachments. KARAT is also equipped with a sophisticated access rights and data storage (local DBs, external DBs, shared directories) system.
KARAT Workflow is a module designed to manage company processes. Our conception integrates workflow control into KARAT IS, so Workflow can be linked to any records or table in the information system, being equal to all other components. Workflow deployment combined with approved documents scanning can minimise physical document circulation inside the company, make the approval status of all documents readily available, or make it possible to display the original document, stored as an attachment.
